Unfortunately is part of a series based on the dialectic between industry and nature. In this series, Uranga works with a “minimal unit” of art and discourse: “the grid.” Here, these geometric squares are where the division between the world of images and the sacredness of real life is encoded. Uranga creates this piece by posing the questions: what would happen, or what would evolution be like, if we did not separate nature from industry or matter from form and content? What if these elements were to give themselves their own logic for survival? Uranga’s work suggests a world in which industrial aesthetics are just another element within the ecologies of organic formations, such as octopus tentacles or the folds of a tree. The violent force of this piece stems as much from the defense methods of the natural world as from a moment in the artist’s life that led him to produce forms to protect himself against the hostilities of the world.
